In Loving Memory of Carole Rose-Marie Dixon-Cohen

Affectionately Known as “Rosie”

Carole Rose-Marie Dixon-Cohen, affectionately known as Rosie, was born on March 3, 1965, in Kingston, Jamaica. In the words of her beloved mother, Josynth Brown, Rosie was a “Bawli Bawli pickney”—a Jamaican expression meaning she cried quite a lot as a child. Even then, her vibrant spirit and strong personality were evident.

Rosie attended Holy Primary Infant School and Holy Primary School in Jamaica. On October 19, 1981, she migrated with her family to Miami, Florida, where she continued her education at Miami Edison High School and later attended Miami-Dade Technical College.

On December 22, 1984, Rosie welcomed her first son, Julien James Martin Dixon, into the world. Determined to provide him with every opportunity for success, she worked tirelessly to build a bright future for her family. In 1986, Rosie proudly enlisted in the United States Army. While serving her country, she welcomed her second son, Jonathan Jason Arlo Dixon-Thomas, on July 23, 1991. Throughout her military service, her devotion to her children never wavered. Her mother, Josynth, and sister, Annette, played an invaluable role in helping care for her sons while she continued her service.

During her time in the Army, Rosie earned numerous awards and commendations in recognition of her dedication, excellence, and commitment to duty. She was honorably discharged in 1994.

In 1995, while continuing to be a devoted mother, Rosie began working as a Placement Supervisor with the Office of Jobs and Benefits. Driven by ambition and a desire for continual growth, she pursued higher education at DeVry University to further develop her skills and expand her opportunities. Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, Lincoln Cohen, whom she married on October 14, 1997.

In 1998, Rosie began her distinguished federal career as an Immigration Inspector with the former U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service. Over the course of 30 years of federal service, she built an exemplary career marked by professionalism, leadership, integrity, and dedication to public service. She retired as a Supervisory Customs and Border Protection Officer on December 30, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and commitment.

Rosie was the bedrock and firm foundation for many generations of family, friends, and acquaintances. She possessed remarkable strength, determination, generosity, and unwavering love. Whether as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, colleague, mentor, or friend, she gave selflessly and touched countless lives with her kindness, wisdom, and compassion.

Today, we say goodbye with heavy hearts, yet with profound gratitude for the life she lived and the legacy she leaves behind. Though her physical presence is no longer with us, her love, guidance, and influence will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Rosie leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Lincoln Cohen; her loving mother, Josynth Brown; her sons, Julien James Martin Dixon and Jonathan Jason Arlo Dixon-Thomas; her cherished grandchildren, Kenyon, Anais, Aiden, and Julius; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, colleagues, and all whose lives were touched by her warmth, kindness, and love.
