The Book of Life was opened for Deacon George Funchess affectionally known as "Grandad", May 14, 1937, to the late George and Leatha Funchess in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
Deacon Funchess moved to Broward County in the 1950's and worked as a construction worker and scrap metal collector for many years. Deacon Funchess and the love of his life, Mable Grace was united in holy matrimony for over 50 plus years and to this union 8 children were born and reared.
At an early age Deacon Funchess accepted Christ and later joined St. Ruth Missionary Baptist Church in 1956 under the leadership of Rev. W.C Edcar. Deacon Funchess was a faithful servant of the Deacon Ministry for 40 plus years, Sunday School, and Pastor Support Ministry. Deacon Funchess LOVED his church family and was a faithful member until his final days. Deacon Funchess was also a member of Masonic Lodge Malachi #2.
Deacon Funchess always publicly showed his affection and love to his dear wife no matter where or when, even if it was in the middle of a church service by standing up and letting everyone know, "I LOVE MY WIFE!"
The Book of Life was closed for our beloved George Funchess Sr. on March 18, 2022.
Deacon Funchess leaves to cherish the apple of his eye, wife, Mable Grace Funchess, eight children; George Funchess Jr., Kimberly "Michelle" Funchess, Daryel Funchess (Ruthie), Ronnie Funchess, Patrick Funchess (Tina), and Lashonda "Nikki" Irvin; two children proceeded him in death- Brenda Funchess, and Marilyn Funchess Morris; two brothers- Walter Funchess and Willie "Nookie" Funchess Sr., three brothers proceeded him in death. Three sisters- Dorothy Curry, Martha Williams, and Helen Busby. One sister proceeded him in death. One brother-in-law; J.B. Grace (Virginia). Twenty-one grandchildren, a host of loving great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren. One goddaughter, Julie Spencer Washington and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
