Obituary

Tommie Smith was born on August 22, 1952, in Dania Beach to his late parents, May Alice Thomas and
Emanuel Smith of Donaldsonville, GA. It was during his time at Hollywood Hills High School, that
Tommie's athleticism became apparent to everyone that knew him as "Sugar Bear". Wearing jersey #77
with pride as he tackled his opponents on the field. It was off the field that he met his high school
sweetheart and mother of his children, Patricia Golden.
Together they created and raised three wonderful sons: Emanuel, Princeton, and Justin, otherwise
known as, The Smith boys. Tommie lived every day of his life for his family. A family that saw him take a
trade and make it a career. He spent over 30 years with Sears and during that time, he took his boys
along with him for father son rides and on the job training. Showing them how hard work and
persistence pays off in life.
Tommie never let an opportunity pass him by to spend with his family. Be it the Smiths or the Golden's,
he was always there. As he watched his son's become men, he was blessed with becoming the proud
grandfather of 2. While Tommie held many titles in his life, he handled them all with a smile on his face
and a booming laugh. He was that of a son, a brother, an uncle, a cousin, a neighbor, a friend, or even a
handy man. Of all the tiles he held, the greatest were those of dad and granddad.
Tommie was preceded in death by his parents Emanuel Smith and May Alice Thomas. His sister Pearlie
Mae Tyson and brother Herodies Thomas.
Tommie is survived by his three sons, Emanuel Smith, Princeton Smith (Quintina), and Justin Smith. His
two grandchildren, Jasmine Smith and King Smith. His sisters and brothers, Forrest Thomas, Randolph
Thomas, Inell Thomas, and Barbara Jean Smith, along with a host of nieces and nephews, cousins,
friends and neighbors who loved him dearly.
